EMSCULPT for Tummy Tuck Patients Denver

EMSCULPT is a non-invasive high intensity focused cosmetic treatment that uses electromagnetic therapy to tone and contour the body. This treatment induces rapid muscle contraction which may otherwise not be possible through voluntary muscle movement. It has three main intended purposes.

  • Improvement of abdominal tone
  • Strengthening of the abdominal muscles
  • Development of firmer abdomen(1)

Abdominoplasty, more commonly known as a “tummy tuck” procedure, is a way that patients can significantly reduce abdominal fat and excess skin while firming and tightening the muscles of the abdominal wall. Complimenting a tummy tuck procedure with the benefits of EMSCULPT technology can provide patients with even firmer-looking, tighter abdominal muscles for a well-toned, stronger abdomen.

At Millard Plastic Surgery, we believe that every patient deserves the body they have always wanted! Dr. John A. Millard is an experienced and renowned board-certified plastic surgeon based in Englewood, Colorado. What is HIFEM Technology?

EMSCULPT is a no-exercise, non-invasive way to simultaneously break down the fat that surrounds abdominal muscle and improve muscle tone in one straightforward procedure. It employs HIFEM technology, which stands for high-intensity focused electromagnetic therapy. The results of recent studies suggest that HIFEM procedures are safe and effective options for noninvasive body shaping.(2) EMSCULPT employs this technology in its treatments.

What Happens to the Body During an EMSCULPT procedure?

During an EMSCULPT procedure, the muscles of the targeted area for treatment are forced into a series of involuntary contractions. As well as toning muscle, this process can also burn fat.

Supramaximal Muscle Contraction

The EMSCULPT procedure induces supramaximal muscle contraction in the abdomen. These contractions are similar to those that occur during regular exercise. The main difference between what our muscles do when we are exercising and what they do under the effects of HIFEM is that the latter causes these contractions to occur much faster and with much higher intensity.

Supramaximal Lipolysis

Another attribute of HIFEM technology is its ability to induce metabolic responses in the body. Lipolysis is the process through which fat is broken down in the body. Supramaximal lipolysis occurs when your brain receives signals that your muscles are working intensely somewhere in your body. During an EMSCULPT procedure, your brain sends signals to respond to the unusually intense muscle contractions, causing the body to rapidly break down fatty acids. This causes a breakdown of fatty tissue, further enhancing the body sculpting effects of the treatment.

Benefits of EMSCULPT after a Tummy Tuck

It is important to us as plastic surgery providers to give our patients further treatment options to enhance the results of their treatments. You may consider EMSCULPT treatment to build muscle either before or after your abdominoplasty, which is something you will discuss with Dr. Millard at your personal consultation. A tummy tuck procedure in itself has a number of benefits.

  • Removes excess skin and fat
  • Tightens weak fascia
  • Restores weakened core muscles
  • Restores flatter, more sculpted abdomen
  • Improves self-esteem

An additional non-invasive body sculpting treatment can further enhance the appearance of existing muscles to provide the finishing touches to your new, healthier-looking abdominal tone. With EMSCULPT, you will not need any further incisions, injections, or anesthesia! Many patients consider EMSCULPT to be a “dream” procedure, in that it both burns fat and builds muscle in a procedure that lasts less than one hour.

Candidates for EMSCULPT

The number of non-invasive body shaping procedures performed in the US more than doubled between 2012 and 2016,(3)  showing the increase in popularity of treatments to enhance body contour. Good candidates for EMSCULPT are patients looking to fix issues that cannot easily be achieved with conventional dieting and exercise. Similarly, patients who have already undergone tummy tuck surgery may benefit from the further abdominal contouring/strengthening effects of a non-invasive EMSCULPT treatment.

Personal Consultation

Your personal consultation with us will consist of an assessment of what you would like to achieve with EMSCULPT. At this time, he will discuss your goals and find the right combination of procedures for your individual situation. If you have recently had a tummy tuck, our team will explain the benefits of EMSCUPLT as a complementary procedure and how it can further enhance your abdominal aesthetic.

The EMSCULPT Procedure

We will direct focused electromagnetic energy over the abdominal muscles using the EMSCULPT HIFEM device. This causes the abdominal muscles to tense involuntarily at a much faster rate than your body is capable of achieving voluntarily. The device can be held at each single point for up to six seconds. As the device is moved from area to area around the abdomen, the muscles contract, new muscle is built, and fat is burned away. A single treatment may take between 20-40 minutes, depending on your individual needs. EMSCULPT sessions can also be undertaken in a planned sequence to further enhance the appearance of the abdomen.

It is important to note that a tummy tuck procedure will require some recuperation time if you are combining it with EMSCULPT either before the procedure, or afterwards. It is therefore essential to discuss your personal timeline with Dr. Millard before your surgery date. With EMSCULPT alone, there is no downtime, so you will be able to get back to your regular schedule quickly, without disturbances to your routine. Patients also note that they start to feel their results immediately after their treatment. Improved core strength and better muscle tone are attainable goals with EMSCULPT!

Corresponding & Complementary Procedures

Dr. Millard offers a number of corresponding procedures to accompany EMSCULPT to help you look and feel your very best!

Skin Tightening

Losing weight can be an otherwise great experience that is often marred by patients’ inability to resolve excess skin issues after weight loss. With a skin tightening surgical procedure, overstretched skin can be removed for a slimmer body contour using Vaser Hi Def Liposuction in the abdomen, arms, back, and legs.

Fat Transfer

A fat transfer procedure transfers your own body fat to enhance the appearance of other regions of the body. Dr. Millard can skillfully harvest your fat using a cannula system, after which it is prepared for reintroduction to the area of treatment. Using

Ultrasound-Image-Guided-Fat-Transplantation (UIGFT), he skillfully transplants fat to the targeted areas.

Tummy Tuck

EMSCULPT is a great way to further enhance a tummy tuck procedure. The tummy tuck itself focuses on removing excess fat and skin while simultaneously restoring weakened muscles. This results in a smoother, firmer abdominal contour.

FAQ

Does EMSCULPT hurt?

An EMSCULPT procedure is non-invasive in nature and very well-tolerated by patients. Some patients describe a pulling sensation, making EMSCULPT one of the least uncomfortable muscle toning and fat reduction treatments.

Is there any downtime after an EMSCULPT procedure?

No! One of the great things about EMSCULPT treatment is that patients do not have to spend a lot of time recovering at home following their session. Usually., sessions take between 2–40 minutes to complete, and immediately afterwards you will be able to carry on with your daily routine as normal.

Why should I consider EMSCULPT after a tummy tuck procedure?

EMSCULPT can be an effective way to enhance the results of your tummy tuck, the main reason being that it further focuses on shaping and toning the abdominal muscle groups. The main purposes of EMSCULPT are to tone muscle and burn fat, so if you want to achieve a toned abdomen to complete your look, EMSCULPT could be a great option. You can discuss with your plastic surgeon whether to get EMSCULPT treatment before or after your tummy tuck, depending on your own individual circumstances.

How long does one EMSCULPT procedure take?

Each EMSCULPT treatment varies in length but usually runs between 20-40 minutes in duration. At this time, your doctor will focus high-intensity electromagnetic energy onto the areas of treatment, toning muscle and burning fat through involuntary muscle contractions.

Do I need more than one EMSCULPT session to see the effects?

Everybody is different and each patient has their own goals and outcomes for the surgery they undergo. For some people, the desired results may be achieved in one session, but for others, it may take more to get the look that they want. It is important to have realistic expectations for your EMSCULPT treatment and discuss achievable aesthetic goals with your doctor before your treatment session takes place.
