Get off my Back! Lipo for Bra Fat

Liposuction is a cosmetic medical procedure that removes fat from the back area. Like other areas of troublesome fat, back fat can change the shape of our bodies and affect how we feel about ourselves. The physical appearance of excess back fat can make us feel less confident about our appearance. Fat deposits may form large bulges that affect the fit of our clothing. They may “spill over” a shirt, bra strap, or pants line. Perhaps we shy away from form-fitting numbers, garments and undergarments that fit snugly around the waist. This can be an uncomfortable and embarrassing experience.

Thankfully, liposuction procedures aren’t just for the abdomen! Increasingly, patients are discovering that other areas such as the back, ankles, and upper arms can benefit tremendously from lipo. Back liposuction helps to break down and remove stubborn fat deposits for a more sculpted, slimmer look and feel. Advances in liposuction like VASER and SmartLipo also mean that patients can work with surgeons to choose the best liposuction treatment for their needs.

Dr. John Millard and the team at Millard Plastic Surgery can help you gain the confidence and contour that you desire. By removing back fat along the upper back, mid back, armpits, torso sides, and abdomen you can achieve an aesthetic silhouette to be proud of. If you’re ready to feel good about yourself again, contact us today at (303) 792-5665.

About Liposuction

Fluctuations in weight, especially as a result of the aging process, alter the distribution of subcutaneous fat; this includes the deposits that can accumulate in the mid and lower back. These changes can also affect skin elasticity. As a result, so-called “bra-line” bulging and back rolls are a common problem for many women in particular. (1)(2) Liposuction techniques have been refined over time to treat smaller areas of fat like this.

Tumescent liposuction is the gold standard of treatment to remove fat. And, in recent years, surgeons have developed advanced techniques such as VASER liposuction and SmartLipo to help patients deal with the frustrations of unwanted back fat safely and effectively.

What is Tumescent Liposuction?

Liposuction procedures are performed with the help of tumescent fluid; a solution that combines adrenaline, saline, and local anesthesia, for fewer risks and faster recovery. Tumescent fluid provides a safer alternative through the use of local anesthesia rather than general anesthesia, which carries the risk of bleeding. Furthermore, tumescent liposuction protects the body from shifts in body fluid caused by fat removal. This shift can lead to lower blood pressure, which the use of tumescent solution also prevents.

VASER Hi Def for Back Fat

Dr. Millard is a pioneer of VASER Hi Def liposuction in the United States! VASER stands for Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance. It’s an advanced ultrasound-assisted liposuction treatment for a number of areas of the body, including:

  • Upper & Lower Back
  • Breasts
  • Chest/Gynecomastia
  • Inner & Outer Thighs
  • Knees
  • Stomach
  • Ankles
  • Arms
  • Axilla
  • Banana Roll
  • Calves
  • Flanks
  • Waist
  • Chin

Surgeons use ultrasound during a VASER procedure to break down fat cells in three ways: cavitation (vapor bubble formation), thermal effect, and direct mechanical effect.(3) These processes smoothly and accurately emulsify fat, and remove it for good from the treated area. One of the greatest advantages of VASER Hi Def liposuction is that it destroys fatty tissue but leaves the surrounding tissues undamaged, making recovery easier and more comfortable.

SmartLipo for Back Fat

Another liposuction technique that is well-suited to back fat removal is SmartLipo. Dr. Millard can use this liposuction technique to treat the following areas:

  • Upper Back
  • Lower Back
  • Stomach
  • Arms
  • Breasts
  • Chest
  • Axilla
  • Waist
  • Flanks
  • Buttocks
  • Inner thighs
  • Outer thighs
  • Knees
  • Calves
  • Ankles
  • Chin

SmartLipo simultaneously tightens skin and removes fat deposits. Using laser-assisted technology, this type of liposuction is both minimally-invasive and effective/It can target diet and exercise-resistant fat in hard-to-reach places like around the bra line. Patients can experience  a reduction in fat to redefine their body contour and regain self-confidence.

Candidates

Back liposuction is not a weight loss procedure. Liposuction candidates are in good health with an overall healthy body weight within 30 lbs of their goal weight. Patients achieve optimal results if they maintain good eating and exercise habits before and after the procedure.  We also work with patients who are proactive about their health and carry minimal to no pre-existing conditions that may increase the health risks of liposuction surgery. To prepare, we may ask candidates to adopt a well-balanced diet and exercise practices well in advance to improve your long-term results.

Preparing for Liposuction

Every treatment plan is unique, but the preparation procedure for liposuction is usually the same no-matter the area targeted.

To make a full recovery with long-lasting results, maintain a diet rich in vitamins, minerals and adequate protein. Keep difficult-to-digest foods such as red meat to a minimum. Avoid sugar and excessive carbohydrates, along with processed food.

Even small amounts of alcohol can interfere with anesthesia. Alcohol can also increase the risk for blood clots since it reduces blood flow to the body. Cigarettes can interfere with anesthesia as well as the healing process due to the vasoconstrictive properties of nicotine.

This includes blood thinners (e.g.Warfarin, Enoxaparin) anti-inflammatories (NSAID pain relief, aspirin), garlic, ginseng, Vitamin E, Ephedra, Kava, and St. John’s Wort.

Procedure

Once we have administered your anesthesia,  Dr. Millard will make tiny incisions into the problem areas and saturate it with tumescent fluid subdermally. He will then use a cannula, or narrow metal tube, to remove fat cells that loosen thanks to the tumescent solution. The treatment area is drained of any excess fluid and blood before being stitched and wrapped in a compression bandage. You will be able to leave the clinic with a friend or family member on the same day as your back fat lipo procedure.

Recovery

After your back fat liposuction treatment, your surgeon will recommend wearing a compression garment for the first few weeks. This garment will help to reduce swelling and guide your body in adapting to a new shape. There will be some bruising and swelling, but this can be mitigated by rest and pain medication. We will provide a recovery regimen of rest, light movement, and pain management. Please take your medications exactly as prescribed, avoid driving in the first week, and avoid direct sunlight. Results will become more noticeable around the six week mark, with full results visible within six to twelve months.

Results

Experience a smooth, roll-free back with liposuction. Women will be able to wear a bra without feeling excess fat along the band. You will feel a much sleeker contour that can leave you feeling more secure, as well as more confident from the inside-out. Men will experience a more aligned fit for garments, without additional fat that “spills” over. Through regular diet and exercise, these results can be permanent. These results will be permanent with regular exercise and a rich, health-centric diet.
