Liposuction vs. Vaser Liposuction

Are you concerned about excess fat around your belly or other areas of your body? Today there are many solutions to reducing this frustrating fat and it can be overwhelming to figure out which one is right for you. A common procedure that has been tested and improved upon for many years is liposuction. But when it comes to removing and redefining the abdomen, which form of liposuction is best?

At Millard Plastic Surgery, we offer the most advanced forms of liposuction to help you obtain a naturally improved and sculpted appearance. One of our most popular forms of liposuction is Vaser.

Although both classic liposuction and Vaser techniques can help trim your waist and improve your abdomen, a comparison will help you understand the benefits of each procedure and which one will more effectively improve your appearance. There are many differences between Vaser liposuction and classic liposuction.

Classic Liposuction

The traditional liposuction technique was introduced in the 1970s. Since then, there have been many technological innovations that have made various options of lipo for patients today.

SAL has fallen out of favor in recent years. This is largely due to the effort SAL takes on the part of the surgeon as well as the potential damage inflicted on the surrounding tissues.

The classic form of liposuction is often referred to as Suction-Assisted Liposuction or SAL. This technique is the basis of all methods today and is still practiced today.

SAL requires a plastic surgeon to continually move their wrist back-and-forth until the desired amount of fat is removed. However, this technique can prove to be tiring and straining.

The repetitive movement to dislodge and remove fat cells can result in a lengthy recovery period and irregularities to occur under the skin once healing is complete.

Vaser Liposuction

Vaser combines SAL with advanced ultrasound technology. VASER stands for Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance. With ultrasound technology, Vaser lipo is able to gently dislocate fat cells from surrounding tissues. The fat cells can then be easily removed using the traditional liposuction technique.

Vaser Hi Def Liposuction

This form of Vaser allows for Dr. Millard to remove fat cells and sculpt remaining tissues to tone your body and enhance muscle definition. This technique builds off the basic Vaser method while also including a tumescent fluid. Tumescent fluid is injected into the predetermined area and acts as a local anesthetic. The fluid is comprised of epinephrine (adrenaline), saline and lidocaine (an anesthetic). This fluid swells and firms the treatment area, allowing for fat to be accessed easier.

Once the tumescent fluid has taken effect, ultrasound waves are applied to cause the bubbles in the tumescent fluid to fluctuate in size. The agitation of the bubbles delicately dislodges fat cells from the surrounding tissues. Once the cells have been separated, they are removed using an aspirator.

Tumescent fluid provides a lot of benefits for the patient. The fluid not only helps to remove fat cells simply but helps to improve recovery time. When the fluid takes effect, it helps to constrict blood vessels. When using tumescent fluid, you will experience less blood loss and trauma, resulting in a healthier, quicker recovery.

Vaser 5-Ring Probe Atraumatic Fat Removal Technology

The 5-Ring probe is an advancement on the classic Vaser cannula that Dr. Millard developed himself. This technological advancement is a specifically designed cannula with five rings. Most cannulas used in the Vaser procedure have three rings. With five rings, your surgeon can more effectively remove fat and at a faster rate.

In comparison to traditional liposuction, Vaser promotes many benefits such as:

  • Less bruising and swelling
  • Increased precision
  • Decreased blood loss
  • Fewer post-procedure irregularities
  • Quicker recovery

These are just a few of the ways Vaser will improve your experience and appearance.

4D Vaser Hi Def Liposuction

This technique is the same as Vaser Hi Def lipo except it also includes fat grafting. The removed fat will be purified and prepared for re-injection. Dr. Millard will artfully sculpt an area like the abdomen to improve your body’s muscular definition, symmetry or proportions. Patients commonly enhance their breasts, buttocks, abs, arms and many other locations. With 4D Vaser technology you can receive precise muscle definition.

Vaser procedures can be performed virtually anywhere on the body.

Common areas patients receive Vaser are along the abdomen, back, bra roll, calves, lower abdomen, knees, thighs, love handles, cheeks, breasts, hips, chin, and arms.

With the Vaser technology’s precision and efficiency, you will receive safe, reliable improvements.

Both forms of liposuction can effectively reduce subcutaneous fat around the abdomen. Liposuction treatment is often used to reduce the layer of fat found below your skin, which is also referred to as subcutaneous fat.

If you struggle with loose belly fat or love handles, liposuction can dramatically improve your appearance. However, liposuction is not meant to reduce large amounts of weight and is ineffective at reducing the stomach fat often called “beer gut”. The fat that often collects in men and causes their stomachs to bulge is a different form of fat than subcutaneous fat.

The beer gut is caused by visceral fat. Visceral fat is hard and develops deep within the body around the internal organs. Visceral fat cannot be reduced with surgery because of its solid form and delicate position. Visceral fat is unhealthy and can cause a lot of health complications such as diabetes, heart disease, heart attacks, and many others. Fortunately, visceral fat can be quickly reduced with exercise.

If you are concerned about that difficult surface layer of fat, liposuction techniques can be used very effectively to reduce and slim down your waist in no time! Both men and women commonly receive liposuction around their midsection. Specifically reducing lower belly fat can help smooth out the transition between the upper and lower areas of the body. Fat has a tendency to gather in our midsection and may make our bodies look disproportionate. A liposuction procedure will reduce any excess saggy skin from the lower area of your stomach and smooth out your body.

Liposuction for love handles on men is commonly performed to provide a tapered waist and enhance the body’s proportions. Reducing a man’s love handles can help their shoulders appear broader and enhance their masculine frame. This procedure is also very beneficial to women. Reducing muffin tops not only compliments your frame, but it also boosts your confidence!

Classic liposuction will reduce stomach fat and help you achieve your ideal appearance. Vaser techniques will take your body sculpting results one step further. Vaser reduces abdominal fat and sculpts the area with noticeable skin tightening. Men can enhance their appearance by reducing fat while improving the definition of their six pack and V. Women can receive a smoother stomach while enhancing their natural V-shape and feminine contours. Stomach liposuction can greatly improve your appearance and help you obtain a smoother, sexier body.

Liposuction procedures are minimally invasive and require small incisions in the treatment area for the cannula to be inserted. Dr. Millard will make incisions along your body’s natural curves to help keep the incisions discreet. Once your choice of lipo has been performed, your incisions may be closed with regular or dissolvable sutures. Sometimes, drains are placed in incisions just beneath the skin to help remove excess fluids. The drains will only be needed for a few days and will be removed by Dr. Millard at a follow-up appointment.

Any discomfort after treatment will be controlled with medications. Patients typically take about a week off from work after a liposuction procedure. These treatments are minimally-invasive and, with a healthy lifestyle, will remain consistent for many years.

Regardless of the form of lipo performed, you will immediately notice improvements in your abdomen. These results will improve as swelling diminishes and the body forms to its new shape. A compression garment will need to be worn for a few weeks to help minimize swelling and help your body adjust to its new contours. Your final results will set in about two months after the surgery. This may vary depending on the amount of fat removed and sculpting performed.

If you struggle with love handles or loose skin around your abdomen, the classic technique of liposuction may be an excellent solution for you.

The elimination of fat cells allows you to stay slim longer because those cells can no longer increase in size. This lipo method will allow you to remove small pockets of stubborn fat to help you achieve your ideal body goal. This technique is good for active individuals who struggle with reducing that last bit of fat on their stomach.

With Vaser techniques, not only can you improve your waistline, but your body can be contoured to enhance your natural muscle definition. This method is also good for men and women who lead active lives. This form of lipo will decrease fat while also improving the quality of your skin and proportion of abdominal tissues.

If you deal with stubborn belly fat, consider classic liposuction or Vaser techniques to reduce and resculpt your abdomen. With either form of lipo, you can lose belly fat quickly and truly transform your appearance!
