Have questions about Brazilian Butt Lift? You are not alone! Below is a list of some of the most frequently asked questions at Millard Plastic Surgery:

What is BBL surgery?

Brazilian Butt Lift, or BBL surgery, is an FDA-approved buttocks augmentation procedure. BBL transfers fat from elsewhere on the patient’s body to the buttocks. The fat is purified before it is carefully injected throughout the buttocks. The goal of BBL is to add natural-looking and -feeling volume, thereby improving buttocks shape and lift. Every BBL is custom-tailored to the patient’s unique goals and physique.

What does BBL surgery do?

Brazilian Butt Lift surgery can:
• Add volume to the entire or part of the buttocks
• Correct asymmetry
• Fill in divots
• Fix a sagging butt
• Lift the position of the buttocks
• Improve shape and curve
• Add projection to buttocks
• Smooth skin of the buttocks
• Correct changes after weight loss
• Create a more sensual silhouette

BBL does far more than improve the buttocks: BBL adds curves that transform patient’s entire silhouette!

Brazilian Butt Lift surgery is a highly customizable procedure. Whatever your desired improvements, your BBL at Millard Plastic Surgery is personalized to you and your aesthetic goals.

How is BBL surgery done?

BBL surgery is performed in two steps. First, liposuction is performed in order to collect fat for transfer. The fat is gathered using a special fat harvesting cannula. Dr. Millard will use this Vaser liposuction cannula, a few tiny incisions, and tumescent fluid to perform liposuction in a targeted area of the patient’s body. Liposuction is a minimally-invasive fat-elimination procedure. Liposuction will not only safely remove fat from the patient’s body, it will also dramatically improve the curves and contours of their body

In order to extract fat for transfer, Dr. Millard will first introduce tumescent fluid into the liposuction treatment area. Tumescent fluid is a saline solution which contains lidocaine, a local anesthetic, and epinephrine. Tumescent fluid will cause the fat cells to swell, making them easier to gently remove from the body. The tumescent fluid has the added benefit of constricting blood vessels in the area, which keeps post-procedure bruising and swelling to a minimum. Using only one-centimeter incisions and the slim cannula, Dr. Millard will break down and extract fat deposits for transfer. This step accomplishes much more than simply fat elimination: Dr. Millard will artfully sculpt the area to achieve a smooth, flattering contour

Patients have the option of optimizing their fat removal with VASER ultrasound or SmartLipo technology. VASER and SmartLipo technologies make it easier to remove fat, tighten, and sculpt the body. Once the fat is collected for transfer, it will be purified. Once the fat is purified, Dr. John Millard will use a tiny, thin cannula to inject patient’s autologous fat throughout the buttocks. The fat will be injected to achieve the desired buttocks shape and size. BBL takes three to five hours to perform.

Incisions will be closed and bandaged. Once you are briefly monitored, you will be approved to return home with your designated driver to begin your recovery.
Dr. John Millard is a body contouring expert and liposuction specialist whose advanced, careful techniques will make the maximum improvement on patient’s bodies, with minimum strain or downtime.

How long is recovery after BBL?

Recommended recovery after BBL is 1-2 weeks. Dr. Millard will discuss your anticipated recovery timeline with you, including the amount of time you should plan to take off from work.

You will be able to exercise 6-8 weeks after your BBL.

When can I swim after BBL?

Avoid swimming in jacuzzis, pools, and the ocean for 6 to 8 weeks. This is to reduce the risk of infection

Can I sit after my BBL?

Yes, you can sit after your BBL. We recommend that you purchase a large, fluffy pillow that you can sit on for up to 6 weeks to maximize your results. In the case that you have to remain seated for a long period of time, take care to change your position every 20 minutes.

Where is a good area to get fat for BBL?

The ideal fat donation site is the one which will frame and flatter patient’s buttocks augmentation results the most. Dr. John Millard most frequently performs liposuction for fat transfer on the lower back and hips. The slimming effect and new contours will accentuate the buttocks and make the augmentation look more dramatic

How is fat purified for BBL?

Fat will be collected and purified using the Wells Johnson High Volume Precision Autograft System. The Wells Johnson HVP system keeps fat in a sterile, contained environment from the moment it leaves the body until it is placed strategically throughout the buttocks.

Is fat transfer to the buttocks right for me?

You are a good candidate for brazilian butt lift if:
• You feel your butt is flat or shapeless
• Your buttocks sags
• Weight loss changed your buttocks
• You have healthy skin tone
• You are at a stable weight
• You are in overall good health
• You have an open but realistic understanding of what BBL will achieve

It is important to gain a comprehensive understanding of your health history with your surgeon. If you have a medical condition, please share this information with Dr. Millard.

Is BBL painful?

No, Brazilian Butt Lift at Millard Plastic Surgery is not painful. Patients will be kept comfortable during their liposuction and fat transfer with general anesthesia. Soreness is not uncommon over the first few days following BBL, but patients will receive medication that will control any discomfort

What should I do before BBL?

Prior to BBL, avoid smoking for two weeks. Discontinue use of blood-thinning medications and supplements for the two weeks leading up to your surgery date. These include NSAIDs like aspirin and ibuprofen and supplements containing fish oil, vitamin E, turmeric, garlic, and spirulina. We recommend that patients fill any prescriptions in the week prior to their surgery date.

Is BBL surgery or implant better?

Before the days of Brazilian Butt Lift surgery, patients would turn to buttocks implants to improve the shape and volume of their buttocks. While buttocks implants can achieve an attractive result, they are a foreign object placed within the body. There is a risk of implant movement or allergic reaction with buttocks implants. Brazilian Buttock Augmentation is performed with patient’s autologous fat. There is no risk of allergic reaction because the fat is from the patient’s own body. With a gluteal implant, there is a chance of implant rejection. There are no foreign objects with BBL, only soft, natural-feeling results!

What is Brozilian Butt Lift?

Brozilian Butt Lift is BBL which is performed to augment the size and shape of the male buttocks. An increasing number of men each year receive Brozilian Butt Lift in order to achieve their ideal, lifted buttocks. Unlike the rounded volume that many women seek, men undergo BBL to achieve a muscular, square athletic buttocks. Dr. Millard is a liposuction and fat grafting specialist who understands the unique needs of the male physique. His Brozilian Butt Lift results are flattering, natural-looking, and transformative!

Does fat migrate?

No. It stays where we put it.

What to expect after BBL?

Dr. Millard will overfill your booty to account for the average 40% reduction that occurs due to absorption of fluids and fat loss during initial healing. You will feel like everything is huge but don’t worry! Your buttocks will form to size after recovery. A second fat transfer is always an option for patients who would like bigger augmentation and more take. We recommend waiting 4-6 months between BBLs.

You will receive personalized recovery instructions and medication to control any post-procedure soreness. Soreness will subside within the first week of your recovery. Continue to avoid smoking and alcohol for two weeks after BBL.

Is Brazilian Butt Lift permanent?

The results of Brazilian Butt Lift are dramatic and long-lasting. Results will last for years! Patients who maintain a healthy, active lifestyle will see the most longevity from their BBL outcomes. Major fluctuations in weight can impact the results accomplished with BBL.

How much does BBL cost?

The price of your BBL will reflect the details of your personalized treatment plan. Dr. Millard will take time to discuss the steps of your procedure with you during a private consultation at Millard Plastic Surgery. Once he has worked with you to customize your Brazilian Butt Lift procedure plan, you will receive your BBL cost estimate.
